Hair of the Dog is a foster based organization meaning that in order to help a dog off the street or out of the shelter, we must first have a committed foster home. By opening up your home to foster dogs, you are giving these dogs a second chance at finding a forever home.

 

As a foster parent you provide a temporary home for a Hair of the Dog pup until they are adopted. This could be a few weeks, a few months, or longer.

 

While we greatly appreciate any help that you can provide in supplying items for your foster dog, rest assured that Hair of the Dog is ready to provide you with any supplies that you may need such as food, bowls, collar, leash, harness, bedding, crate/ fencing, toys etc. Hair of the Dog will also provide any veterinary care, and transport to and from the vet if the foster is unable to transport. All we ask is that you to provide a safe and loving home.

 

Shelters are stressful environments. Foster care allows the dogs to decompress, adjust and thrive in a comfortable home setting. As long as you can give some love and time to these senior pups, any dog you take in will benefit from foster care.   

 

Our adoptable dogs can also be fostered for a set trial period by potential adopters. This is particularly helpful for those who want to make sure that the dog is a good fit with their family, other pets, and home environment.
